(DUBOIS CO.) - The Dubois County Sheriff's Department is warning residents about a group of pavers who are swindling customers with bully tactics.

Police say the pavers go door-to-door offering to pave driveways with asphalt they claim is left over from previous projects.

"They do the work, but then charge more than the price originally agreed upon by the pavers and customers," says Dubois County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Stuart Wilson.

The department received four complaints this week. In one case the pavers agreed to pave a driveway for $4,500 - however, when the job was completed they charged the resident $9,000 and bullied the customer into paying the higher price.

Police say residents need to get a written agreement before any work is done.

"If they cannot provide a contract, it's a good sign they are not a reputable business," Wilson says.
