(BLOOMFIELD) - A Linton man was sentenced to six years in prison, with one year suspended, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing the death of 51-year-old Phillip Reynold.

After a night of drinking at a party in Worthington, then 20-year-old Todd Bennett caused a high-speed crash involving three vehicles on State Road 54, just east of County Road 800 West between Switz City and Linton early on January 22.

Police say that Bennett was traveling at more than 95 mph when he rear-ended a car driven by 48-year-old Lisa Schaffer and then struck a truck head-on, killing Reynolds.

Schaffer and Bennett suffered serious injuries during the incident. Blood tests taken at the hospital showed Bennett's blood-alcohol content at .225

A Greene County Superior Court Judge sentenced Bennett after a negotiated plea agreement, Bennett pled guilty in April to felony charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury. The suspended year will be spent on probation. Bennett's driver's license was suspended for five years.

22-year-old Craig Sullivan of Worthington was arrested the same day as Bennett. He is accused of providing alcoholic beverages to Bennett. Sullivan is facing a Class D felony charge of providing or furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor which resulted in a death. A pretrial conference in his case is scheduled for early August.
