Lawrence County Community Foundation Awards Grants

(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Community Foundation board of directors awarded grants to 26 local agencies that submitted proposals for the 2015 open grant cycle.

According to a press released, funding for the annual grant application process was provided by the following endowment funds: LCCF Unrestricted Fund, Bicentennial Fund, Wilbur C. Dollens Fund, Bob Bridge Fund, Chloral Hilderbrand Community Grants Fund, Patrick and Sharon Robbins Fund for Lawrence County, Ralph W. "Shorty" & Bette R. Robison Fund, Smithville Charitable Foundation Fund, Eugene & Marilyn Glick Foundation Fund, Freeda & Opal Casada Fund, LCCF Education Fund, Morris D. Norman Fund and the M. Jeanette Norman Fund.

"It was an honor and pleasure to chair this exceptional committee," says Jim Buher, Chairman of the LCCF grants committee. "We had many interesting and creative proposals; the committee studied and evaluated each proposal carefully. We are very fortunate to have so many good organizations serving the needs of Lawrence County residents."

Buher pointed out that the community foundation is currently participating in the GIFT VI matching grant initiative issued by Lilly Endowment Inc.

"Any gifts to unrestricted funds are matched dollar for dollar, which will benefit future unrestricted grant-making in Lawrence County," he added.

The following grants will be awarded:

  • Becky's Place/Catholic Charities, "Incredible Years Social Skills Program," $2,020
  • Bedford Revitalization Inc., "Lawrence County Timeline," $1,250
  • Bedford Revitalization Inc., "WPA Project Records for Lawrence County," $375
  • Bedford Rotary Club/United Way, "I LIKE ME Book Project," $1,000
  • Bertha's Mission, "Nutrition on a Budget," $750
  • Bertha's Mission, "Pull up a Chair," $1,150
  • Between the Crowd, "BTC Support," $500
  • Boy Scouts of America Troop 348/American Legion Post 250, "Happy Trails," $1,250
  • Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, "BGCLC Fine Arts Program," $1,300
  • Celebrate Recovery/FMC, "Celebrate Recovery Community Launch," $1,250
  • Fayetteville Community Lions Club, "FCLC Ball Park," $3,000
  • Hoosier Hills PACT, "It's the Little Things," $1,000
  • Hoosier Trails Council, BSA, "Recruitment Drive for Lawrence County," $500
  • Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry, "Meat the Need 2015," $2,000
  • Hope Resource Center, "HRC Parenting Program," $2,500
  • Huron Volunteer Fire Department, "Scene Lights," $3,296
  • Knights of Columbus/St. Vincent de Paul, "CPR Manikins," $525
  • Knights of Columbus/St. Vincent de Paul, "Parkview Canopy," $3,395
  • Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services, "Brrr -- Brief Radiation Relief," $525
  • Lawrence County Concert Association, "Evening Concert," $1,000
  • Lawrence County Museum of History, "Interactive Exhibit Display," $3,125
  • Lawrence Interfaith Endeavor Inc., "LIFE Rescue Packs," $1,500
  • Limestone Persimmon Theatre Company, "LPTC 2016," $1,000
  • FRC Team 5403 RoboBoosters, "Aluminosity," $1,500
  • Older Americans Services Corp., "Cleaning for Our Clients," $1,500
  • Phi Beta Psi sorority, Theta Alpha Gamma, "Cooking for a Cure," $1,000
  • Springville Community Association, "Community Building," $3,855
  • White River Humane Society, "Operation: Pet Overpopulation Control," $2000
  • Williams Volunteer Fire Department Inc., "Smoke Detector Safety," $947

A challenge grant was awarded to Becky's Place; challenge grants require the organization to raise additional funding.

The foundation is a public charity recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to be proactive in creating and growing an enduring source of charitable assets and to identify and respond to the changing needs of Lawrence County.
