(BLOOMINGTON) - The historic Delap-Fyffe Farmstead near Bloomington is for sale for the first time in 156 years.

On August 9, Indiana Landmarks welcomes realtors and preservation-minded buyers to tour the unrestored property at a free Landmark Look from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Delap-Fyffe Farmstead at 1585 West Maple Grove Road is located in the National Register-listed Maple Grove Road Rural Historic District, 15 minutes from downtown Bloomington. The two-bedroom Greek Revival house, built in 1859, retains many original elements including built-in cabinetry and fireplace surrounds, panel doors, door and window trim, and old-growth poplar floors.

Indiana Landmarks optioned the farmstead from the descendants of the family that established the farm 156 years ago in order to find a buyer who values the historic character of the house and the rolling rural land.

The 6.23-acre site includes three timber-framed sheds and a limestone well house. Rolling wooded hills surround the site to the south and west, with the curving Maple Grove Road bordering it on the north and east. Stout Creek, a tributary of Bean Blossom Creek, runs through the property. The farmland that once accompanied the site left the family's ownership some time ago.

"The Delap-Fyffe place has such restoration potential," says Mark Dollase, Indiana Landmarks' Vice President of Preservation Services, "and it offers a beautiful rural setting that's just minutes from the vibrant cultural amenities of Bloomington."

The preservation organization is hunting for a buyer to tackle the rehabilitation of this historic property, listed at $125,000. For more information or to schedule a private showing, contact Mark Dollase at (317) 639-4534 or mdollase@indianalandmarks.org.

The Landmark Look on August 9 is free and open to the public with an online RSVP at delapfarmsteadlook.eventbrite.com or by calling (317) 639-4534. Parking is very limited, and the house/site is not handicapped accessible.
