(BLOOMFIELD) - The Greene County Council has approved a resolution adopting an Economic Development Income Tax.

According to Council Attorney Marvin Abshire, this will cause an increase on income tax, but that increase will be small. He explained that if a person is making $20,000 annually, they would experience an increase of approximately a dollar a week in taxes.

"It is twenty-five hundredths of one percent, so for every dollar earned this adds one fourth of one penny to a person's overall county income tax bill," Abshire told the Greene County Daily World, "Right now, county income tax is one percent and it has been for a very long time. As a result of the Economic Development Income Tax, the tax bill is actually going to go up."
