Last updated on Monday, July 13, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Sheriff Mike Branham has named Lola Nicholson as the first woman animal control officer for Lawrence County.

Nicholson is replacing Tyler Strahl, who resigned from the position to pursue his law enforcement career.

Nicholson has worked as a dispatcher for the department and recently as the department's receptionist.

As animal control officer Nicholson will handle domesticated animal calls in the county. Branham says 50 percent of the calls are about stray animals.
