(LINTON) - What began as a garage fire early Saturday morning soon spread to two homes, one at 27 SW 3rd and a neighboring home at 269 W. Vincennes Street in Linton.

The Greene County Daily World reports that the Linton Fire Department responded to the call at 5:17 a.m.

Linton Fire Chief Brad Sparks says that as soon they arrived, the garage had already burned to the ground.

"The garage was probably burning 30 minutes to 45 minutes prior to the call," he added.

The fire then spread to the house owned by Bruce and Debbie Moore at 269 W. Vincennes St. The fire destroyed the home.

Firefighters were able to save the home of Regina Gilreath at 27 SW 3rd St.

Gilreath's home had some minor damage to the attic area and backside, but the garage was destroyed during the incident.

During the fire, Sparks says firefighters faced issues with the Moore home.

"We couldn't get the fire out due to the building being added onto so many times. We had to bring in Carr and Thomas Construction to dig it out for us," he added.

After almost six hours of battling the blazes, firefighters cleared the scene at 11 a.m.

Other departments who responded to the fire included Wright Township Fire Department and Greene County Ambulance Service.

Sparks wants to thank McDonalds restaurant who supplied breakfast to the firefighters on the scene and Casey's and Chuckles gas stations who supplied drinks.

The Red Cross has been in touch with both parties.
