(BROWN CO.) - It has been a week after flooding and high winds have left Brown County devastated.
Brown County officials are still assessing the damage, but recovery funding is still uncertain, according to Brown County Commissioner Diana Biddle.
"Until damage assessments are finalized, it will be difficult to know whether the damage was enough to qualify for Federal Emergency Management Agency money, or for grants," Biddle added.
The Red Cross hopes to have their damage assessments finalized by Wednesday.
In addition, the county is assessing the cost for dealing with flood damage.
According to the Brown County Democrat, county officials found themselves redistributed from their offices on Friday to the field. Around 15 employees from 8 different departments were reassigned to flood-related work to assist with flood recovery and assessment.
Brown County Triad volunteers and county employees also assisted out-of-area Red Cross volunteers with navigating the county's roads.
County residents are helping with money from their own pockets. As of Saturday more than $1,500 was donated to the Brown County Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Response Fund and will be used to cover feeding volunteers and paying for emergency supplies that cannot be met through special appropriations.
Depending on how much is eventually collected, Biddle hopes to use some of the money to also assist individuals in need.
