(BROWN CO.) - The Brown County Commissioners have issued a disaster declaration due to flooding.
According to the Brown County Democrat, the Brown County Emergency Management Agency is assessing the damage, but need residents to to report damage by calling (812) 988-2063. Do not call 911 unless you have an emergency.
A travel advisory was issued to encourage people to stay home and not venture out into flood waters or into areas where trees or lines are down.
Public Information Rodney Margison says anyone who has been displaced and needs a place to cool down, rest or charge a cellphone can come to the emergency shelter set up at the YMCA.
At 11 a.m., about 4,400 people are without power across the county, Margison said. The time for restoration is unknown. EMA is telling people to prepare for long-term outages.
An unknown number of people are also without water. Brown County Water Utility reported outages on Bellsville Pike, Mt. Liberty Road, Whitehorse Road, Valley Branch Road, Poplar Grove Road, Grandview Road, Hoover Road, Raspberry Lane, Three Notch Road, Salt Creek Road, Ford Ridge Road, Spearsville Road, Sweetwater Trail, Glenview Lane, Glen Oak Court, Sprunica Ridge Road, Robertson Road, Smith Road, Bell Road, Webber Hill Road, Mt. Moriah Road, Daugherty Road, Hidden Lake Lane, Albert Johnson Road, Duncan Lane, Aaron Drive, Brown Hill Road, Lynn Drive, Deer Trails, State Road 135 North, and State Road 46 East. There presently are no boil water orders that did not exist prior to last night's flooding.
The God's Grace clothing mission at Brown County Presbyterian Church on State Road 135 North will be open on an as-needed basis today, as will the Salvation Army food pantry on South Jefferson Street. Arrangements for emergency provisions should be made directly with those agencies.
