Last updated on Thursday, July 23, 2015

(BIRDSEYE) - A Birdseye man was killed after his 2006 Harley Davidson collided with a train Wednesday night.

According to a Dubois County Police report, 57-year-old Larry Schwartz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Just after 8:33 p.m., Schwartz was traveling southbound on State Road 145 when he disregarded the cross arms that were down to warn motorists of an approaching westbound Norfolk Southern train.

Police say Schwartz drove the motorcycle between the cross arms and turned west onto First Street. He then drove off the right side of the street and into a rock area next to the tracks where he lost control of the Harley.

The bike came down on its side on top of Schwartz, pinning him underneath.

Schwartz was struck by the passing train and suffered massive head trauma.
