Bedford Man Arrested After Refusing To Cooperate With Police

Last updated on Thursday, July 23, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police found him intoxicated and uncooperative.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to a home in the 1600 block of N Street after a neighbor called police complaining about noise and loud music.

When police arrived at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday no was at the home. But then at 1:29 a.m. police received a second call complaining about the noise.

When they arrived officers found 29-year-old Andrew Choate of Bedford with no shirt on and staggering down the sidewalk.

"Officers asked Mr. Choate to stop, but he refused," Parsley says. "He then staggered toward the porch and fell on the steps leading to the house."

Parsley says that as Choate was headed to the house he was yelling at officers, who asked him to "keep it down."

Choate refused to cooperate and continued to be belligerent.

"Officers asked a friend of Mr. Choate's to take him in the house and keep him there," Parsley says. "The friend attempted to do that but he wouldn't stay in the house and continued to yell at the officers."

When officers told Choate he was under arrest, he refused to cooperate and struggled with officers as they placed him in handcuffs.

"Mr. Choate had to be forcibly placed in the police car," Parsley added.

Choate is facing charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest by force.
