Last updated on Wednesday, June 17, 2015

(BEDFORD) - To celebrate Limestone Heritage Month, the Lawrence County Art Association will open their Second Annual Midsummer Judged Art Exhibit with a public reception on Friday, June 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Wiley Art Center in Bedford.

Nonmembers and members of LCAA are invited to enter two-dimensional artwork for judging in this show.

"We want this to be a community event, much like the Persimmon Festival Art Show," says LCAA president Sammie Justesen. We hope to bring in artists from around the area who may not be familiar with our gallery. A wide range of subjects and talent will make this a fun and fascinating show. Last year we had a wonderful turnout from artists in all genres."

Artwork will be judged on June 25 by Maureen O'Hara Pesta, a highly esteemed professional artist whose career has encompassed both fine and commercial art. The entry categories are: Photography, Landscape & Seascape, Still Life & Flowers, Portrait & Figures, Animals & Birds, and Abstract/Fantasy/Non-Objective. Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in all categories as well as Best of Show and People's Choice Awards.

Artists over age 18 are invited to enter up to three works of art at $5.00 per entry. Pre-registration forms are available at the Wiley Art Center, but art will be accepted without pre-registration. Entries should be brought to the center on Wednesday, June 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. Artwork will remain on exhibit until Saturday, July 18.

The Wiley Art Center is located at 14th and J Streets in downtown Bedford. Hours are Thursdays and Fridays 1 to 6 pm and Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm.
