(BEDFORD) - A West Baden Springs Man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of James Avenue and U.S. 50 East Friday afternoon.

According to a Bedford Police report, 64-year-old Julch Philip of West Baden Springs was traveling east on U.S. 50 East and had stopped his 1993 Yamaha motorcycle for a red light to turn north onto James Avenue.

66-year-old Jackie Prince of Bloomfield was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 in the right lane slowing in traffic as he approached the stop light on U.S. 50 and Ind. 37. As he approached James Avenue he had slowed to a stop when Philip crossed U.S. 50 from the eastbound lane attempting to turn onto James Avenue.

Prince told police when he saw the motorcycle cross in front of his 1987 Mack truck he tried to stop before hitting the motorcycle but could not .

Philip suffered internal injuries, but was conscious at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to the helicopter pad at IU Health Hospital where Air Evac transported him to the University of Louisville Hospital.

Philip was able to tell police that he was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 and was waiting in the turn lane to turn left onto James Avenue. He told police he saw the truck also waiting to turn in front of him and when the truck turned and crossed westbound traffic he followed because he thought it was clear of traffic.
