(BLOOMINGTON) - Two men were arrested after police say they were transporting heroin and crack cocaine from Indianapolis to Bloomington to sell.

According to Bloomington Capt. Joseph Qualters, 32-year-old Timothy Covey of Bloomington admitted he was selling drugs for Lawrence Roper of Indianapolis.

In exchange for selling the drugs, Covey was given drugs to feed his addiction.

Qualters says that police used several confidential informants this month to carry out multiple controlled buys of crack and heroin from Roper and Covey.

Investigators received information that the two men would be traveling from Indianapolis to Bloomington with drugs in their vehicle on Tuesday.

Police staked out Ind. 37 and when they spotted Covey's car traveling southbound on Ind. 37 at 5:35 p.m. they stopped him.

In the car, officers found individually packaged bags of crack cocaine and heroin, drug paraphernalia associated with heroin use, a digital scale and two Hi-Point handguns.

At the same time as the traffic stop, police executed a search warrant at a an apartment of 400 block of East 13th Street.

Covey told police he rented the apartment for Roper as a place to sell the drugs.

Both men were arrested.

Covey is facing charges of dealing cocaine and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm

Roper, is facing charges of possession of a narcotic, dealing cocaine and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He is also being held on a parole violation.

Roper refused to speak to officers until he spoke to an attorney.
