Three People Arrested After Vehicle Stopped On Ind. 37

Last updated on Wednesday, June 24, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Three Bloomfield residents were arrested after the vehicle they were in was stopped at the intersection of Ind. 37 and 35th Street Tuesday night.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, Lawrence County dispatch began receiving several calls just after 7 p.m. about a driver in a red Chrysler weaving all over the roadway on Ind 54. The last caller saw the vehicle at Popcorn Road.

Two Bedford officers then spotted the vehicle at 16th and Ind. 37 and began following it.

"The vehicle was traveling south on State Road 37 and was weaving all over the roadway and went off the roadway several times," Parsley added. "The officers made a traffic stop at the intersection of State Road 37 and 35th Street."

Officers approached the vehicle and found 19-year-old Wendy Feutz so intoxicated she couldn't answer officer's questions.

"Her speech was so slurred officers couldn't understand her," Parsley added. "The two males in the vehicle was also extremely intoxicated."

As officers were placing the front seat passenger 19-year-old Wesley Sipes in handcuffs to arrest him on a charge of illegal consumption, he began to fight with officers.

"He struck the officer in the face and took off running," Parsley says. "The other two were ordered to stay in the vehicle and the two officer went after Mr. Sipes. He ran east up the embankment and the officers gave chase. He was brought down to the ground and handcuffed. As that was being done he continued to fight with the officers."

Once Wesley Sipes was secured in the back of a police car, officers turned their attention to 24-year-old Joseph Sipes who was in the back seat of the vehicle.

"Mr. Sipes was ordered out of the vehicle," Parsley says. "He refused to get out and began kicking and throwing punches at the officers yelling he wasn't going to get out of the vehicle. That is when an Indiana State Trooper from Putnamville stopped to lend assistance."

Officers had to forcibly remove Joesph Sipes from the back seat.

Once he was secure they turned their attention to Feutz.

"When officers went to get her they found she had crawled into the back seat and was rummaging around," Parsley says.

Officers removed Feutz from the back seat and attempted to give her a breathalizer test.

"Because of her level of intoxicated that was not possible," Parley says. "All three were taken to St. Vincent Medical Center for a blood draw and to be medically cleared. Once that was done they were transported to jail."

Wesley Sipes is facing charges of illegal consumption, public intoxication, resisting arrest by force and fleeing and disorderly conduct.

Joseph Sipes is facing charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest by force and disorderly conduct.

Wendy Feutz is facing charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
