(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington couple and an Illinois man were arrested on drug charges on Thursday.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, the drug investigation spanned two counties and a month long investigation.

Police seized 61 grams of heroin with a value of more than $12,000.

The Lawrence County Drug Task Force, assisted by Bloomington Police, made controlled drug buys of heroin from both 44-year-old Stephoni Leann Henderson and 28-year-old Kaitlin Marie Essic.

Members of Bloomington's Critical Incident Response Team arrested the two women at their apartment at 225 East 20th Street.

According to Bloomington Police Department Capt. Joe Qualters, police had information that the women were to receive a large shipment of heroin. They then set up surveillance on the apartment. They arrested 53-year-old William Tanniehill of Harvey, Ill. after he arrived in a Lincoln Town car and delivered more than 60 grams of the drug.

He was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of heroin.

All three have criminal records.

According to court records, Essick was sentenced to eight years in prison for her involvement in the death of her 7-month-old son Jamison in July 2009. The infant died from trauma to the head. Sent to prison in December 2011, she was released four years later and is currently on parole.

Henderson has been arrested on charges of dealing cocaine, robbery and disorderly conduct. She pleaded guilty to robbing an Owen County State Bank, at Ind. 46 and West Arlington Road, in January 2009. She received five years in prison for the robbery charge and in a plea agreement received a five-year consecutive sentence on a charge of dealing cocaine.

Tanniehill is currently on parole on a burglary charge in Cook County, Illinois. He has done at least five stints in prison on drug possession charges.
