(SEYMOUR) - Three Seymour residents were arrested after a report of people stealing soybean plants from a farm field in Hamilton Township.

The three, 35-year-old Amy Rivera, 30-year-old Mark Sanchez and 25-year-old Cynthia Gonzalez, face charges of theft and criminal trespassing after police found them with trash bags containing soybean plants, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

The plants reportedly were taken from a field in the 4000 block of East County Road 800 North.

According to police, officers were called to the field Friday after a report from a woman saying there were people in the field picking what she thought was corn. The caller told police the three people were in a black car, had loaded three trash bags full of the plants into the car and left.

Reserve Deputy Scott Davis was patrolling that area and stopped the car on County Road 700 North.

Rivera, who was the driver, did not have a valid driver's license. Police also found the trash bags were filled with soybean plants. The farmer had not given the three permission to take the plants or be in his field.

One of the women told police they were going to use the plants to make soap.

The three were arrested on misdemeanor charges of theft and criminal trespassing. Reviera was also charged with operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver's license.

All three were released from the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown over the weekend after posting $705 bonds.
