(SPRINGVILLE) - The Springville Festival kicks off Friday and will continue Saturday.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department and Springville Heritage Park.

Some of the highlights include a car cruise-in, flea market, food and music from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday; kids' games starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The annual parade at 4 p.m. Saturday will kick off with Grand Marshal Bob Phillips leading the parade route. Phillips has announced the parade entries for 30 years, but this year he will be passing the microphone to Kim Newman, daughter of Springville resident Jack Armstrong.

"It's quite an honor to accept that on behalf of so many who have given so much to our community," Phillips says.

72-year-old Phillips was born and raised in Springville. Phillips and wife Mary have been married 53 years and have two children. He is in his second term as Perry Township trustee and previously was the deputy trustee when his wife was the trustee. He has been a precinct committeeman for more than 20 years and has been pastor of Grace Baptist Church for more than 10 years.

The festival will conclude at 10 p.m. Saturday with a fireworks display.
