(MEDORA) - Jackson County Police are investigating the theft of farm and mowing equipment in the Medora area.

Jackson County Sheriff Michael Carothers says that in the past two weeks one farm and one business have had expensive farm and mowing equipment stolen, and the crimes are likely connected.

The pieces include zero-turn riding lawn mowers and farm tractors with a value of more than $53,000.

Sheriff Carothers says police believe the equipment was driven from the scenes and then loaded up onto a trailer.

Large tractors, mowers and related items seem to be the target of the thief or thieves, and Carothers said the public needs to be suspicious if they encounter someone selling high-end equipment at an unusually inexpensive price.
The sheriff's department will continue to investigate and asks the public to call police if they have any tips or information pertaining to the thefts.

One thing that is helping police is that the property owners have the serial numbers of the equipment that was stolen.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
