Last updated on Monday, June 1, 2015

(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour police officer has been disciplined for his recent actions that led him to drive his police car into a restaurant.

Police Chief Bill Abbott told the Seymour Board of Public Works and Safety on Thursday that he has followed the recommendations of the police complaint review board in disciplining Officer Mathew Carver.

Abbott would not release what disciplinary actions were taken, saying it was a personnel issue that would not be made public but would remain in Carver's personnel file.

Police Officer Mathew Carver was on a way to a call May 18th when the cruiser wound up inside the dining room of Wendy's after the officer swerved to avoid a car that pulled in front of him. Carver did not have his lights or sirens on because it was not an emergency run.

No one was injured in the incident on East Tipton Seymour Main Street.

Craver was responding to a call that involved janitors at the Seymour Sixth Grade Center at 1000 S. Poplar St. reporting someone was attempting to block them as they were trying to leave the center.

Police say the janitors thought the people might be parents angry about something that had happened to their child at the school.

However the people blocking the janitors, didn't know they were janitors but thought they were suspicious subject up to no good.
