Relay For Life Honoring Super Heroes

Last updated on Wednesday, June 17, 2015

(BEDFORD) - As a way to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle, Relay For Life of Lawrence County organizers and Super Oldies 105.5 WQRK are inviting folks to attend a Night Of Super Heroes this Saturday.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. at the Parkview Intermediate School track.

The Relay For Life program is a community-based event where teams and individuals set up campsites at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times. Cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap to start each event.

Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide last year. The funds raised support groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention programs, and critical services for people facing cancer.

Relay For Life participants and donors remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those battling the disease by dedicating luminaria bags. Luminaria bags are transformed and illuminated after dark at every local Relay For Life event. Each luminaria is personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing in memory or honor of a friend or loved one who has been affected by cancer.

The Luminaria Ceremony is a ceremony of remembrance and hope. It is a way to honor survivors and those who have lost the battle to cancer. It is a time to grieve for those we have lost, to reflect on our own or loved ones cancer experience, and to find hope that tomorrow holds the promise of a cancer-free world.

The luminaria ceremony will begin at 10 p.m.

Luminaria bags will be available for purchase for $10. Luminaria bags can also be dedicated online by visiting www.relayforlife.org/lawrencecountyin.

It is thanks to the dedication of Relay teams and sponsors that make the event a success. Super Oldies and Relay for Life would like to thank the following sponsors:

It is not too late for community members to get involved in the event by forming a team or making a donation to the Relay For Life of Lawrence County.
