Probable Cause Affidavit Released In Arrested Of IU Star Football Player

Last updated on Thursday, June 18, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - The probable cause affidavit has been released in the arrest of Indiana University star football player Antonio Allen II.

Allen, who has been suspended from the team, was to enter his junior season and was the Hoosiers' top tackler last season with 74, including 45 solo tackles. The Ben Davis High School graduate was a featured member of IU's touted 2013 recruiting class and played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Police say 20-year-old Allen sold a confidential informant between five and 10 grams of heroin and one gram of crystal meth in one transaction. In a second transaction Allen is accused of selling between five and 10 grams of crystal meth to the informant.

Police say the informant was also arrested after he attempted to keep some of the drugs for himself.

Allen was arrested after police set up surveillance on his home in the 400 block of East 19th Street prior to serving the search warrant. Bloomington Police along with the Indiana University Police Department assisted with the search.

According to court documents a trooper watched Allen leave the residence and head for Memorial Stadium football facilities across the street, where he was arrested shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday on charges of dealing heroin, dealing cocaine over 28 grams, possession of heroin over 10 grams, possession of cocaine over 28 grams and maintaining a common nuisance.

Allen was booked into Monroe County Jail on a $75,000 surety, $1,000 cash bond. He was released at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday.

During their search, police found 3.5 smoked blunts in a kitchen cabinet. A plastic bag with 47 grams of a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a sealed plastic bag with a brown rock-type substance weighing 13 grams were found in a hallway closet. That substance was heroin.

The dealing charges were jumped to Level 2 felonies after troopers found a Colt .45 handgun in a nightstand in the bedroom. Troopers also located $920 of money matching serial numbers used in the two earlier controlled buys.

According to court records, Allen is looking at additional charges after this arrest violated a pretrial diversion agreement Allen entered in late April, when he was cited for underage drinking at the beginning of Little 500 Weekend on April 24.

This is the third off-field incident involving an IU football player in the past three months. Defensive tackle Ralph Green III was arrested in April on charges of battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Wide receiver Isaac Griffith was arrested last month on charges of driving while intoxicated.
