Last updated on Thursday, June 4, 2015

(MITCHELL) - Lawrence County Police are investigating the death of a 4-month old baby.

Marion Volunteer Fire Department and a Seals ambulance crew rushed to the home in the 20 block of Pleasant Lane just after 10 a.m. after a report the baby was not breathing.

According to Sheriff Mike Branham when officers arrived on the scene Marion VFD first responders were performing CPR on the male infant.

The baby was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

"According to the mother, the infant was premature and spent time in NICU before being released to come home," Branham wrote in an email. "There is no reason to suspect foul play. The coroner will have more information when his investigation is complete."
