Parking Meter Changes Begin Monday In Bloomington

Last updated on Monday, June 15, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - Starting at 9 a.m. today motorists parking at parking meters in Bloomington will have an additional two hours of free parking throughout the day.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, meter enforcement hours change from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday to 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be no change to the way motorist pay at the meter using either coins or credit card.

In addition to paying at the meter, the City continues to partner with Parkmobile, a mobile payment app, with which those parking downtown may schedule time and pay with their smartphones. Parkmobile is available with all app stores, including Google Play, Apple AppStore, Windows Store, amazon apps and BlackBerry App World. Customers will be able to use the app with the updated meter enforcement hours on Monday. Also, customers may use Parkmobile in the following City parking lots:

Customers should be aware of Parkmobile's change to its Pay-As-You-Go system, which will replace the older "Select Your Parking" feature. The previous system allowed the user to choose the number of hours he or she wished to park. Pay-As-You-Go allows the user to start the meter and let the time run until the user manually stops the time count.

This prevents a customer having to pay for an entire hour when he or she only needs to park for a short timeframe, such as 15 minutes.

Customers should be advised, however, that Parkmobile will not automatically stop the meter runtime after a specific amount of time has passed. Therefore, users may end up paying for additional time at a meter if they do not enter the app again to stop the meter once they return to their vehicle.

Parkmobile is not affiliated with the City of Bloomington. Therefore, refunds cannot be provided if customers do not enter the app again and stop paying for parking.

For additional information about parking enforcement and new meter enforcement hours, please contact Parking Enforcement Manager RayeAnn Cox at (812) 349-3571. After the new hours are in place, the City website will be updated with the information above under the "Downtown Parking" section.
