Mitchell Man Injured After Crashing Vehicle Into Utility Pole

(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was injured after he allegedly fell asleep while driving early Wednesday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 31-year-old Christopher Bockting was traveling south on Meridian Road near Yockey Road and told police he must of dozed off. His 1998 Plymouth Voyager crossed the center line and traveled off the east side of the road for 53 feet before striking a utility pole. The impact broke the pole off at the base causing electrical lines to fall into the roadway.

Bockting, who lived a short distance from the crash scene, drove the vehicle home and called police.

He returned to the crash site, but in a different vehicle. Bockting complained of neck and right shoulder pain. A Seals ambulance and Marion Volunteer Fire Department first responders treated Brockting at the scene. he refused to go to the hospital.

Duke Energy was called to replace the pole and remove the utility line from the roadway.
