Man Arrested After Collision Near Holiday Drive-In Sunday

Last updated on Monday, June 15, 2015

(MITCHELL) - A Reelsville man was arrested after his vehicle rear-ended another vehicle near the Holiday Drive-In early Sunday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, officers were called to the crash scene at 2:18 a.m.

According to police, 72-year-old Ronald Shelton and his wife 68-year-old Margaret Shelton had just left the drive-in and were traveling north on Ind. 37 when their 1993 Ford Taurus was hit in the rear by a 2002 Honda Odyssey driven by 26-year-old Jeffrey Cummings of Reelsville.

Margaret Shelton complained of neck and back pain and suffered a laceration to her head. Ronald Shelton and Cummings were not injured.

Neither Shelton or Cummings could tell police what happened to cause the accident, but after reviewing the security video at the drive-in officers were able to determine Cummins was traveling too fast for traffic conditions and rear ended Shelton's car.

Cummings told police he had been drinking earlier in the day. He was given a breathalyzer and tested 0.118. Cummings was arrested for operating a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

Assisting at the scene were a Seals ambulance crew and Marion Volunteer Fire Department first responders
