(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Transportation will address use of rumble strips as a safety improvement measure this Thursday at a public information meeting at INDOT Seymour District offices.

INDOT's 185 Arco Lane address is just north of U.S. Highway 50 and less than a mile west of Interstate 65.

At 6 p.m., there will be a formal presentation focusing why the state is installing corrugated centerline striping and edge striping. Following the presentations, INDOT officials will take questions and hear concerns from those in attendance.

The Federal Highway administration recommends rumble strips on centerlines or at the edge or shoulder of undivided rural highways with posted speeds of 50 mph or more.

To date, rumble stripes have been installed at these following locations over the past two years:

  • State Road 46 from S.R. 9 to S.R. 3 in Bartholomew and Decatur Counties
  • S.R. 46 from S.R. 135 at Nashville to Country Club Road at Columbus
  • U.S. Highway 50 from Interstate 65 at Seymour to S.R. 3 at North Vernon
  • U.S. 50 from S.R. 446 to S.R. 135 in Lawrence and Jackson Counties
  • S.R. 7 from S.R. 62 at Madison to S.R. 3 at North Vernon
  • S.R. 111 from S.R. 211 in Harrison County to Main Street/New Albany in Floyd County
  • S.R. 62 from S.R. 3 at Charlestown to S.R. 56 near Hanover
  • S.R. 60 from S.R. 56 at Corydon to S.R. 311 near Sellersburg
Rumble strip corrugations are being scheduled for S.R. 11 north of Seymour. Presentations materials will be posted to the INDOT Seymour District webpage at following Thursday's meeting.
