Daviess Co. Man Sentenced To 36 Years In Prison For Child Molesting

Last updated on Friday, June 19, 2015

(WASHINGTON) - A Daviess County man was sentenced to 36 years in prison after he pled guilty to two counts of child molesting.

According to a probable cause affidavit, in October 2014, Booth performed sexual acts on a 9-year-old female and a 6-year-old female on multiple occasions including the day he was arrested. Booth admitted to a Washington Police detective that he had performed the multiple acts on the two girls over the course of a two-year period, sometimes more than one time each week.

Booth told detectives he liked to "make the victim feel good" and also admitted he had used adult devices on the children. In addition to the acts, Booth also showed the children pornographic videos

Thanks to changes to the Indiana Sentencing Guidelines that took effect last year Booth will serve 85 percent of his sentenced.

Under the new felony code, credit for time served has undergone several changes. Before the changes, an inmate received one day credit for one day served. Now because Booth is a credit-restricted felon he will receive one day credit for every six days served.

The credit changes also mean the amount of educational credit earned while serving time in prison has also changed. Now no more than one year of credit may be earned for an associate's degree and no more than two years of credit may be earned for a bachelor's degree. One year of credit can be earned for technical training or vocational programs.
