(LOOGOOTEE) - The Loogootee School Board hired Dara Chezem as the new elementary school principal.
Chezem is the wife of new Loogootee boys basketball head coach Kent Chezem, who was hired in April. Last year she was principal at Van Duyn Elementary in South Vermillion School Corporation.
Chezem will replace Terri Smith, who resigned her administrative position and will return to the classroom as a second grade teacher. Smith had been named elementary principal in September 2013, after former superintendent Larry Weitkamp abruptly stepped down. He was replaced by Laura Mattingly Hannum, who had been the elementary principal. Smith then moved up from the classroom to replace Hannum.
