Columbus Man Arrested After Crashing Bicycle

Last updated on Tuesday, June 16, 2015

(COLUMBUS) - A Columbus man was arrested last week after crashing his bicycle.

Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department Spokesperson Judy Jackson says that just before 10 p.m., Wednesday, Deputy Nate Nichols responded to a call of a possible accident with injury in the 5400 block of West Goeller Road.

On arrival, the caller told police she had seen a man, with a bloody face, who told her that he had been struck by a vehicle. The man was found lying near the dam. He allegedly refused to identify himself.

Deputies and other emergency personnel could see injuries to the man's head, legs and arms. He said he had been struck by an SUV but could not remember the color.

The man was being placed in an ambulance, but allegedly still refused to give his name. However, prior to the ambulance leaving, authorities say he finally identified himself as 56-year-old David M. Frank.

Sheriff's Department officials say that after receiving treatment at Columbus Regional Hospital, Frank allegedly recanted his story and admitted that he was riding his bike when he hit a hole and ran into a pole or a tree.

Frank was arrested and booked in the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of public intoxication.
