City Says Goodbye To Medlock And McCracken

Last updated on Wednesday, June 24, 2015

(BEDFORD) - Today the City of Bedford will say goodbye to Bedford Chamber President Jamie Medlock and Lawrence County Economic Growth Council Executive Director Gene McCracken.

Medlock, who has lead the chamber since 2010, will join her husband Cody, a former Lawrence County Chief Deputy, who has been in Virginia training for his new job as a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

McCracken, who has been executive director since 2006, is retiring July 31. The former Mitchell High School teacher will retain his position as executive director of the StoneGate Arts & Education Center on a part-time basis.

Bedford Chamber members, guests and friends are invited to a farewell party for the two tonight from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. at Stellar Plaza at 906 16th Street. The event will be held in the upper level.

No one has been hired to replace Medlock or McCracken. Both groups have hired Strategic Development Group of Bloomington to help chart the group's future.

SDG is expected to recommend one of three options: to continue as separate organizations, to stay separate but share top leadership, or to merge. They will make their recommendation next month. From there both boards and city officials will meet to make a final decision.
