(WASHINGTON) - The City of Washington along with Daviess County Economic Development Corporation and the Daviess County Community Foundation will create Bicentennial Park in the downtown area.
The project will create an open air plaza and a brick event storage facility. A covered walkway will be created by altering a building facade and additional lighting and landscaping will be added through the project. Furniture will be placed throughout for patrons to utilize while visiting the space. Creation of this project will allow for additional events in the downtown area.
Washington Mayor Joe Wellman came up with the idea of the bicentennial park as part of Indiana's celebration of 200 years in 2016. Mayor Wellman says the park and renovated buildings will make Main Street a popular place to visit.
Daviess County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director, Ron Arnold told News 10 that many organizations have already discussed interest in moving to downtown following the overhaul of an old furniture store.
While some construction is underway on a few of the buildings along the 400 Block of E. Main Street, Mayor Wellman expects more construction to follow this fall.
