BBB Urges Consumers To Be Cautious Of Technical Support Scam

(UNDATED) - Better Business Bureau Serving Central Indiana continues to receive calls from Hoosiers who have been contacted by companies claiming to be computer tech support firms offering to clean virus-ridden home computers.

BBB urges consumers to be very cautious.

In many cases, the caller misrepresents themselves as being part of well known, recognized company in order to gain your trust.

Once a person gives them access to their computer, they are charged hundreds of dollars and all personal information on their computer is subject to being exposed.

BBB warns consumers to be proactive when receiving these calls by:

  • Never giving control or access to your computer by anyone who phones you unexpectedly or who you do not know.
  • Do not rely on caller ID to authenticate a call. Phone numbers on caller ID's can be spoofed.

For more information, please contact BBB Serving Central Indiana at (317) 488-2224 or info@bbbindy.org.
