Register For Relay For Life Event On June 20

Last updated on Friday, May 29, 2015

(BEDFORD) - On June 20th, teams of local community members will join together at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Lawrence County to help finish the fight against cancer.

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight on June 20th at Parkview Intermediate School.

The Relay For Life program is a community-based event where teams and individuals set up campsites at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times. Cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap to start each event.

The event will kick off with a Survivor Dinner on June 9th at 6 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ at 1401 West 16th Street.

Troy Kirkman with Relay For Life says the dinner is free, thanks to generous sponsors, for any cancer survivor and one of their caregivers.

Anyone who plans to attend the dinner is asked to RSVP by calling Karin DuBois at (812) 340-6808 or emailing her at Karindubois1@yahoo.com.

There will be special music, games and door prizes.

There is still time to register a time for Relay For Life.

Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide last year. The funds raised support groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention programs, and critical services for people facing cancer.
It is thanks to the dedication of Relay teams like Walmart Walking Warriors that support the Society's lifesaving mission and help save lives. They have worked hard to raise up to $15,000 to help in the fight against cancer. Not only do they put hard work into fundraising in the fight against cancer, Walmart is a corporate team partner that matches their volunteer hours with grants. What a great way to give back to their community.

It is not too late for community members to get involved in the event by forming a team or making a donation to the Relay For Life of Lawrence County.
