Last updated on Monday, May 4, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he crashed his vehicle at M and 15th streets Friday night.

According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, 21-year-old Shyloh Aslinger was driving the wrong way on the one-way street and crashed into another vehicle.

When police arrived Aslinger was still in the vehicle. Officers turned off the vehicle and could smell the strong odor of alcoholic beverages.

"Mr. Aslinger had a half empty bottle of alcohol between his legs," Parsley added. "He refused medical attention and refused to exit the vehicle and became violent with officers."

Officers had to physically remove Aslinger from the car. He then refused to participate in field sobriety test, so a warrant was issued for a blood-draw.

Officers put Aslinger in the back of a police car where he then was able to draw his legs up through the handcuffs.

"Officers again had to restrain Aslinger who was belligerent and continued to fight with officers," Parsley added. "He was taken to IU Health Hospital where Aslinger continued to yell, scream and fight with hospital personnel.

After the blood-draw, he was then taken to the Lawrence County Jail where on charges of open container, two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, OWI refusal and was cited for driving the wrong way on a one way street.
