(LINTON) - Second Street, in between the Linton Fire and Police Department, will soon be designated as the Fred Cromwell Memorial Way, in honor of the fallen Linton police officer.
The Greene County Daily World reports that Officer Fred Cromwell was killed in action 100 years ago and was recently honored by the City of Linton on February 7.
President of the Linton Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Paul Clark came before the Linton City Council with the initial request during the council's meeting Monday.
The signs are a little bit bigger than an actual street sign, with a blue line at the base and it will say 'Fred Cromwell Memorial Way.'"
Clark is hoping to get the memorial road designation when the fallen officer was honored with the ceremony, but due to time constraints, the project was put on hold. Clark is currently in the process of working to get Fred Cromwell's name on both the state and national memorials for police officers. He is hoping to be able to get that done during Police Week of 2016, but there is still some legal loopholes he must go through first.
The council approved the road name and the Linton Street Department will be putting up the signs later in the month.
