(COLUMBUS) - A Good Samaritan was trying to help a "stranded motorist" in Columbus when the motorist robbed him.

Columbus Police Officers responded to the report of the robbery on US 31 near Washington Street around 1:55 p.m.

The victim told police that he stopped to assist a man who was carrying a gas can on US 31 near Lowell Road. The victim offered to drive the stranded motorist to a nearby gas station, but on the way there the motorist pulled out a handgun and robbed the Good Samaritan of his wallet and other property items.

The victim was unharmed.

The suspect then fled from the victim's vehicle on foot. He was described as a black male, with a tall, slender build and approximately 20-30 years of age. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and blue jean shorts.

Detectives are also looking for a newer model Chevy Suburban, black in color, with 22-inch chrome wheels and a temporary paper license plate which may have been involved in the incident.

Anyone with information in this case can contact CPD Detective Tom Foust at (812) 376-2642. Tips and information can be left anonymously.
