Fire Causes Extensive Damage To Home

Last updated on Tuesday, May 26, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A fire caused extensive damage to a home at 915 22nd Street early this morning.

According to Bedford Fire Department Capt. John Hughes, flames and smoke were shooting out of the house when firefighters arrived at 2:17 a.m.

"It was about 25 percent involved and had vented itself," Hughes says. "We had the fire under control in about 10 minutes."

The fire caused extensive damage to the home owned by Natalie Watson. The home was being rented to Brooke Kelly.

No one was home when the fire started.

"I was at my mother's home," Kelly says. "My neighbor called me to tell me the house was on fire."

The neighbor, Randy Lee, says firefighters were on the scene very quick.

"They were on it," Lee says. "Police and firefighters, were here in a hurry. I was impressed," Lee says. "They had it under control in no time."

Lee says he was getting a cup of coffee when he noticed brake lights outside his window.

"Some lady stopped out front and said they the house is on fire."

Firefighters were still on the scene at 4 a.m. investigating the cause.

"At this time we are not sure what sparked the blaze," Hughes says. "The cause is still under investigation."
