(SULLIVAN CO.) - A Dugger woman who pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and resisting law enforcement was sentenced on possession, resisting law enforcement charges
34-year-old Leigh Ann Lovelace was sentenced to a year in the Indiana Department of Corrections for each count as part of a plea deal. The court ordered the sentences for each count to run concurrently. Six months of the sentence was suspended and she was given credit for 160 days and placed on six months probation.
As part of her plea deal, a Level 6 felony count of possession of meth and a Class B misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana and an additional count of possession of a controlled substance were dropped.
Also arrested in the case was 43-year-old Michael R. Neff of Dugger. He was arrested on felony charges of possession of meth, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, all Level 6 felonies. His next court date is set for a July 10 pre-trial conference at 10 a.m.
The two were arrested in Dugger on February 2 when an Indiana State Police trooper Brent Robinson stopped a 1996n Dodge pickup Neff was driving after he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Terhune and Short streets and failed to stop again at the intersection of Short and Laughlin streets.
After stopping the truck the trooper noticed the driver was nervous and witnessed Neff attempting to stuff a plastic bag between the front seats and then passed the bag to Lovelace.
Lovelace then stuffed the plastic bag under her clothing.
When the trooper asked her about it she began yelling at the trooper and refused to comply with his commands.
After a brief struggle, Lovelace was arrested on charges of dealing meth and marijuana, possession of meth and marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance and resisting arrest.
Neff was arrested on charges of dealing meth and marijuana, possession of meth and marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.
During their investigation officers found a plastic bag with about 4 grams of meth, another bag that Lovelace hid under her clothes that contained about 130 grams of marijuana another three grams of marijuana in her purse along with five hydrocodone pills, and 1.5 depressant pills.
