(NASHVILLE) - Daniel Messel’s attorney has filed a motion with Brown County Circuit Court to move the trial out of Brown County.
Messel is charged with murdering 22-year-old Indiana University senior Hannah Wilson, whose body was found in northern Brown County April 24. Brown County Deputies found Wilson's body near Plum Creek Road near State Roafter around 8:30 a.m. after a woman driving on Plum Creek Road saw Wilson's body face-down in a vacant lot. An autopsy determined Wilson died from blunt force injuries to the back of her head. Messel's cellphone was found next to her body.
Messel was charged with her murder on April 27.
The motion to move the case from Brown County, where Wilson's body was found, came two days after a judge granted Messel and his public defender $3,000 to hire an investigator to gather information in the murder case.
Dorie Maryan, appointed as the public defender to represent 49-year-old Messel, originally asked for $10,000.
Brown County Prosecutor Ted Adams thought $10,000 was excessive, given the county's limited funds and the Judge Judith Stewart agreed setting the amount at a $3,000 cap that could be increased if needed.
