CrimesStoppers Offering Reward For Info About Linton Break-Ins

Last updated on Thursday, May 14, 2015

(LINTON) - There’s been a string of break-ins and thefts from vehicles in Linton and now CrimeStoppers is offering a reward leading to the arrest of those involved.

Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell says break-ins like these happen periodically, especially in the summertime, and at least one suspect is under investigation.

"We expect charges to be filed soon," Jerrell says. "We are also attempting to determine if this individual may be involved in other incidents."

The suspect or suspects have been ransacking parked vehicles and taking whatever they can get their hands on - money, purses, drivers licenses and other items.

Police are asking motorists to not leave valuables in their vehicle. Items need to be removed from vehicles or locked in the trunk. Motorists are also advised to lock their vehicles.

"Valuable items left in plain sight in an unlocked vehicle is an open invitation to a thief," Jerrell says.

Police have also found that security or motion lights have been unscrewed from their sockets.

Though some residents believe the incidents are happening just in their neighborhood or on their side of town, Chief Jerrell says the incidents are not concentrated in just one area.

"It's sporadic all over town," he added. "One officer took a report Monday night in the southwest part of town, while other officers were investigating an incident in the southeast and northeast sides of town."

Anyone with information about these incidents in Linton should call the Linton Police Department at (812) 847-4411 or call CrimeStoppers Tip-line at (812) 847-5463. The organization has also implemented a toll-free number so that all Greene County residents have access at no cost to the caller. The toll-free number is (866) 446-4672.
