(BEDFORD) - Two people were injured after being thrown from a motorcycle on Old U.S. 50 East near Back Creek Road late Sunday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 38-year-old Garry Vest Jr. of Osgood was not familiar with the roads and was traveling too fast when he lost control of his 2014 Harley Davidson and crashed.

Police say Vest was traveling southeast on Old U.S. 50 East and skidded when he entered a curve near the bridge causing the bike to run off the roadway and enter the ditch.

Vest told police he fell off the motorcycle and rolled down the ditch, his passenger 35-year-old Devony Thompson of North Vernon was thrown from the bike.

Vest suffered broken ribs, abdomen and chest pain.

Thompson complained of neck, back, arm and hip pain.

Both were taken by ambulance to Shawswick Middle School, where they were met by two helicopters which flew them to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

Assisting at the scene was an IU Health Hospital ambulance, Guthrie and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments.
