(ECKERTY) - An Eckerty teen was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he drove into the side of a house along Schnellville Road Wednesday afternoon.

According to deputies, 19-year-old Steven Tyler Lang was traveling south at a high-rate of speed on County Road 1025 East just north of Schnellville Road when he lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet S-10 truck. The truck left the roadway and traveled about 550 feet before striking a home at 10257 Schnellville Road.

The truck ended up going under a deck into the lower level of the home belonging to Tina Madden.

Lang, who suffered severe injuries, was transported from scene by ambulance to a landing zone that was set up at the Birdseye Town Park and then transported to the University of Louisville Hospital.

The residence was occupied at the time of the collision, but the two occupants were not injured. The house is uninhabitable due to the$50,000 worth of damages received in the accident.

The crash is still under investigation and deputies believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Charges are pending in regards to the outcome of the investigation.

Police say Lange was injured in an accident near Marengo in 2012 when he was a student at Crawford County High School. That accident left him restricted use of his legs below the knee. He does use a wheelchair, but police say he does use his feet to drive as the truck was not equipped with any hand-controls. Police also say Lang was driving on a suspended driver license at the time of the crash.

The Dubois County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Indiana State Police, Birdseye Fire Department, Schnellville Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Dubois REC, and a Berg's Garage wrecker.
