Last updated on Wednesday, May 20, 2015

(DUBOIS) - A fifth grader struck and killed by a vehicle in Evansville last Thursday will be buried in the Zoar Cemetery in Stendal today.

11-year-old Madeline Fisher of Evansville was a student at Dexter Elementary School. She was born in Jasper in 2003. Her mother, Sarah Weitkamp and brother, Jonah Weitkamp, both live in Evansville. Her father and stepmother, Jeremy and Carrie Fisher, live in Jasper. A grandparent, Jackie Mellenthin, lives in Ferdinand.

The crash happened Thursday afternoon on Vann Avenue at Bayard Park Drive.

According to police, Madeline Fisher and another child were playing together at the park when Madeline tried to cross Vann Avenue - a four-lane undivided street.

One motorist reported narrowly missing the 11-year-old before she was struck by an SUV driven by Brooke Fisher (the two are not related). Fisher told police she didn't see Madeline before the accident.

Madeline was rushed to the hospital and later died from her injuries.
