Last updated on Thursday, April 16, 2015

(MITCHELL) - Visitors to Spring Mill State Park on April 25 can learn about traditions from willow furniture making to music to limestone carving from Hoosier artisans.

Traditional Arts Indiana will feature nine southern Indiana craftspeople and musicians at the park. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and kicks off the demonstration season at the park. The demonstration season showcases crafts associated with early life in Indiana.

The event will feature Matt Bruce, limestone carver; Sarah Noggle, spinner and weaver; Keith Ruble, bowl hewer and log cabin builder; Danny Cain, hoopnet maker; Jan Boettcher, Norwegian-American rosemaling; Joseph Frey, harness maker and leather worker; and John Bennett, blacksmith. Stephen and Nancy Dickey will perform music native to southern Indiana.

This program was made possible through funds from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, and is one of several programs hosted by Traditional Arts Indiana, a statewide program based at Indiana University's Mathers Museum in Bloomington.

Spring Mill State Park (stateparks.IN.gov/2968.htm) is at 3333 State Road 60 East, Mitchell, 47446.
