(CRANE) - Col. Joe Dixon, serving as the 16th commander of Crane Army Ammunition Activity since June of 2013, has been selected to serve as the G4, the senior logistician, for III Corps, one of three corps of the United States Army Forces Command and located at Fort Hood, Texas.
Reflecting on his time commanding the Activity in Indiana, Dixon, an alum of nearby Indiana University in Bloomington, said, "I have always enjoyed the benefits of receiving great assignments over the years in the Army and coming home to serve in Indiana felt as if I had won the lottery. Now I have another great opportunity to help the Army build readiness at a critical moment in its long history."
Dixon praised the Crane Army workforce for its dedication during challenging times for the military. "Crane Army Ammunition Activity is well known throughout the Army and the Department of Defense for having a dedicated and professional workforce that safely provides the very best conventional ammunition support to our nation's warfighters," he said. "I am extremely proud to have served alongside our great workers who are just never satisfied with good enough. These professionals, are continuously improving all operations to more effectively serve the Soldier and federal taxpayers. I have learned a lot from these great people and a deeper appreciation of how important the organic industrial base is to our Army, the Department of Defense and our Nation"
Prior to his command time at Crane Army, Dixon served as the G4 for the Third Infantry Division located at Fort Stewart, Ga., and deployed to Camp Spiecher, Iraq. Some of Dixon's previous assignments included serving at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and Fort Bragg, N.C., along with service in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Korea and multiple deployments to Iraq. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Quartermaster Officer and detailed to the Infantry after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He holds a Master of Military Arts and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and a Master of Science in Human Resources Management from Troy State University, Troy, Ala. He has completed the Joint Forces Staff College, the Senior Service College and the Army Materiel Command's Depot and Arsenal Executive Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina.

His achievements will positively impact the Army's organic industrial base for years to come. Without a doubt, he will be as successful in his future endeavors," Brig. Gen. Kristin K. French, commanding general, Joint Munitions Command, stated.
Gen. Raymond Odierno, the Chief of Staff of the Army, has approved the slate of new commanders, including the incoming commander for Crane Army Ammunition Activity, but has not publicly released that information yet. The change of command is expected to take place in the summer 2015.
Established October 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure in order to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components. Crane Army maintains up to one third of the Dept. of Defense's conventional ammunition inventory. The Activity also provides command oversight of Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Letterkenny Munitions Center, Pennsylvania, and Milan Army Ammunition Plant, Tennessee.
