Police And ISP K9 Drogos Apprehend Felony Suspect

(ELLETTSVILLE) - Just after 11 a.m. Monday, Monroe County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call from a man reported he was threatening to kill himself with a knife.

Police rushed to 9634 Elwren Road after the caller reported the barefoot man had showed up at his home and wanted to borrow his vehicle.

The caller told police the man was around 25-years-old and had a knife. He also told police the man appeared to be "under the influence of drugs."

Once learning that police were on their way, the man ran to an adjoining house and stole a truck.

He was last seen traveling toward State Road 45.

Both sheriff deputies and Ellettsville officers looked for the vehicle on Dutch Ridge on Red Hill Road. Just before 3 p.m.the truck was spotted in the 8000 block of Red Hill Road.

At 3:30 p.m. Monroe County dispatch received a call from an area resident at 7651 Red Hill saying that someone had just broke into their their basement, and several firearms and clothes were missing.

Indiana State Police trooper Allen Deel and K-9 Drogos were then contacted to track the man from the home. Trooper Deel, K-9 Drogos and three Monroe County deputies began to track the suspect through the woods where they quickly found a cell phone, a pair of binoculars and several rounds of ammunition the man had taken from the home.

Officers were told a camouflage jacket and pants were also missing from the home.

Drogos tracked the man for another half mile through a wooded area where Drogos found the man hiding in a pile of leaves.

Trooper Deel told the man to put his hands up or Drogos would be released. The man complied immediately.

The man had the stolen firearms and was wearing the stolen camouflage clothing.

The suspect was transported to the Monroe County Jail and was charged for several felonies.
