(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Republican Party appointed Penny May to replace Julie Hewetson on the Bedford City Council Tuesday night.
Julie Hewetson has resigned after a recent move to a new home located her outside of the Bedford City limits.
May will follow in her husband's footsteps. Jack May stepped down from the council seat in April 2011 after demands of his job made it difficult for him to attend council meetings.
Penny May has filed and is running unopposed on the Republican ballot for the District 5 seat.
