(SEYMOUR) - Police used a stun gun and a police dog to catch a man officers said was a heroin dealer.

38-year-old Manwell Owens of Oxford, Mississippi was arrested during a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 65 about a mile north of the U.S. 50 exit.

He faces a felony charge of dealing heroin, after police reported finding more than 250 grams in the vehicle he was in, according to a report from state police.

After executing a traffic stop, the trooper reported observing things that indicated the possibility of drugs inside the vehicle.

Trooper Stephen Wheeles and his K-9 partner Jinx arrived to assist shortly thereafter. Jinx alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle, which led to the passenger, 38-year-old Manwell Owens of Oxford, MS allegedly running from the vehicle into a field.

Trooper Wheeles and Jinx gave chase and caught up to Owens shortly thereafter. Trooper Wheeles deployed his taser after Owens allegedly continued to resist arrest. Owens was apprehended immediately thereafter. A loaded handgun was reportedly found in his possession.

Trooper Miller arrested the driver, 38-year-old Chayla Carr of Louisville, KY.

A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded over 250 grams of heroin.
