(UNDATED) - Indiana State Police are warning Hoosiers about fraud calls from identity thieves pretending to be officials with the Internal Revenue Service.

ISP detectives say the latest scam is linked to this phone number (347) 389-0029.

The callers are acting as government officials and threatening immediate jail time if the potential victims don't cooperate to give bank account numbers, social security numbers, birth date or credit card numbers.

Police advised residents to be on alert and to do the following if targeted:

When an unsolicited call comes to your home, business or cell phone and has the common factors of being threatening and demanding money, be assured that 99.9 percent of the time it is a scam. Just hang-up. They won't call back. They will just move on to the next number looking for someone to victimize.
